Cape Henlopen State Park

I recently took a day trip to downtown Lewes, Delaware and Cape Henlopen State Park. Oddly enough, these Delaware beach areas are only an hour away from my house and I’ve never been. After having lunch at Nectar in Lewes (highly recommend!), a friend and I headed to Cape. I totally underestimated how pregnant I am, and had a rude awakening with the heat and trekking we did. After a failed attempt at some new headshots for me, we decided it was time to head back.

Well, I’m so glad we decided to take a drive around the park, because we stumbled upon a deserted beach area that looked more like the Outer Banks (or at least pictures I’ve seen). On this beach was hundreds of horseshoe crabs, both dead and alive. We learned we had just missed a world phenomenon a few days before. Horseshoe crabs come from all around just to mate and die on this beach. It was an honor to get to experience even a piece of that.
